August 2011. We were a poly family, her family hated it, still hates it and vehemently insists her daughter wasn't gay.

It certainly has - we've been in a custody battle from hell with her mother for almost a year now.

Seriously - I can't wrap my head around people who think that homophobia doesn't "hurt" people.

I mean, she obviously had other problems, but feeling like her family couldn't accept her did not help - at all."</blockquote>

:(

Her family will now have to live with that forever. I couldn't imagine the pain of being disowned and shunned from the people I love.

Whats screwed up is that they STILL don't see how wrong they were. :?

Whatever, some day they will realize it and feel like crap like they should.

I am a firm believer in karma. They will get theirs. I hope you and James win custody over the kids. They don't need to be raised in a hateful environment.

Seriously - I mean, they ARE pretty extreme, their racist too....which blows my mind that they would WANT the kids because they are Hispanic like their dad.

I've noticed that the people who are homophobic are also some of the same people who are racist. Homophobia and racism go hand and hand it seems.

I've noticed the exact same thing. It's pretty f'd up that people still have those reservations this day and age.

I'm shocked that a judge didn't LAUGH in her face when she asked for custody of her grandchildren. They have a stable home. And I'm still sad that her other two kids don't live with you anymore. I think that was screwed up as well to just uproot the kids after they just lost their mom.

Her mother was all about casting an air of suspicion about her death - and since we didnt have a death certificate at the time, I think he did what he felt was safest. BUT we have an official one now and dfcts has been to our house and cleared us as non abusice and non neglectful, so i fail to see why we are still having issues other than sheer homophobia. Her mom still holds the opinion that her daughter was not gay despite her "coming out" to her mom twice via written communication. But we never had a shot at the other two. Their biological father had rights over them and I accept that even though I love them dearly.

Right and I'm sure their father is a fine parent. It's still devastating though to lose your kids like that.

Oh definitely, i dont question his ability to parent. It was definitely hard, though, and we hope that hes willing to let them see our kids, thats whats important.
