Flu, Chicken Pox - these are pointless.
We also didn't do the H1N1 as it was too experimental.

Oh, yeah, I don't even get the flu shot myself so that'll be out unless my child is immunocompromised.

The chicken pox... I'll still do that one. I don't want them to get shingles later in life. It's very painful.

The vaccine does not 100% (ok, well duh not 100% but you still have the same chance of getting it so saying the person wont get shingles later in life is not true) prevent shingles, you have the same chance of getting it with the vaccine or without it. Just as you can still get the chicken pox with the shot, it may just be a milder form. So if you dont get it as a child because of the vaccine you can still get it as an adult.

Chicken pox becomes more painful and worse as they're older. I will probably purposely put my child around others who have chicken pox so they will get it when they're young. And I've heard the vaccine doesn't always prevent the virus from happening. So.... pointless, IMO.

No vaccine 100% prevents anything. :)

The only one I know for SURE this bub is getting is pertussis. I'm getting it and I'm pretty sure she won't need a boost for a year or something?

I'm weighing the pro/cons for the rest of them. I'm waiting for Dr. Sears' book to be delivered.

I never do the flu shot for the kids. This year was the first time I have ever had one. I had one because of the hospital I had to work at required it for all RN's. The Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine doesn't prevent singles. there is a different optional vaccine for that.

Yes, my kids are vaccinated. We do not get the flu shot though.

The chicken pox vax helps prevent the chicken pox. If you don't get the chicken pox, you won't get shingles.

not true. You can actually get chicken pox and not know it because the vaccine has given your body the ability to fight off the infection before it gets out of control. So yes it is possible to get shingles without ever having an active case of chicken pox, I have seen it.
