Gastroenterologist for constipation? A.K.'s Mommy❤ TTC since Jul 2013; 1 child; Dayton, Ohio 1803 posts

DS's pediatrician sent a referral to our local Children's Medical Center for him to see the Gastroenterologist for the constipation issues he has been having for about 4 months now.

Has anyone else's child been seen by one for constipation? What were the results & did it help in the long run? TIA!

My son had to go and they made me do a "clean out" with miralax and then once we did the clean out he still had to take the miralax 1-2 times a day for a while and we had a check up with the gastroenerologist everyonce in a while. Im glad we did it because it helped alot!

His pedi has prescribed him Miralax for the past month & the only thing it's done is cause a horrible yeast infection that won't go away no matter what we do. :\ So the doctor called in a steroid topical cream to start using today.

Did that happen to your son, too?

The miralax wouldnt work because we didnt do the clean out. Once we did the clean out the miralax started working.

I am just wondering, is your child eating dairy products/drinking a lot of milk? Some children will get constipation if they have lactose issues or have issues with cow milk protein. You should try taking away dairy for a week and see if it helps.

It's been going on way before we introduced milk into his diet. It started when he was around 10 months old & we didn't give him any dairy until he was 11 & a half months.

I used to work with a pedi gastroenterologist.
He/she should be able to help. Lots of people don't get advised to do the basics to help their child.

He was on breastmilk for 6 months & then soy formula at 6 months. He was fine transitioning. He had no dairy, I.e. cheese, yogurt, etc. Until we introduced milk at 11 & a half months.
