Got a call from my doctor today saying I'm GBS positive. I asked how long they'd want me on an antibiotic drip while in labor and she said 8 hours. Well, when i was only in labor with DD for 5 hours so chances are this labor will be faster. I'm kind of nervous I wont have enough antibiotics for DS to be safe. Anyone got an experience with this? Did you not have the full dose? How did your baby do?

I got a couple doses of penicillin...they gave me a dose every 4 hours. My labor was 9 hours so I ended up with 2 doses. DD was fine!

I had it with my second. My labor was only 5 hours and some odd minutes. Everything turned out just fine!

just make sure you go in early and not wait it out at home. Definitely if your water breaks. if they arne't able to get the antibiotics in during labor...they'll watch your LO and run antibiotics on him/her if needed.

((hugs)) it'll be ok

They had me come in as soon as I started contracting so I would have time.

I only had the antibotics for about 30 mins. before my LO was born and they just did extra monitoring on her, we had to stay 48 hrs. and see the Dr. at 3 days old, but she was perfectly fine with no problems.

I was only on the drip for about an hour before my last was born, she was born in her amniotic sac, so it was of no concern, but they ate required to hold the baby for 48 hours to monitor for signs of infection.

Neat! Maybe I will tell them not to break my water in hopes that he will be born in the sac for extra protection lol

it's very rare for a baby to be born in the sac, though I do think sometimes doctors break a woman's water too soon.... knowing they need time for antibiotics and breaking the water speeds things up
