My son makes gagging motions in his sleep quite often now it's silent and nothing comes out but it's very scary and now he does it awake. He also does this thing where he shakes his arms and quivers his bottom lip really fast?? I have all these questions because I'm a ftm and everything is so new to me

How old is he?

The gagging is probably reflux. You can talk to your pedi about it but its not really serious.

The quivering is normal. :)

My baby has been gagging a lot lately but he also had a bad cough with a lot of mucus. Does your LO have a runny nose or anything? It could be excess mucus. Or like another poster said, reflux.

Acid reflux. It's when the muscles at the top of the stomach aren't quite strong enough to keep the acid down. It's really common with babies. Pedi may prescribe some medicine if its an issue (like if the baby is cranky because if it or if the baby is spitting up a lot) but a lot of the time they just grow out of it without meds. My son had it. He took meds from about 2 weeks old till 3 months or so.

The shaking is normal...DD does the "quiver lip" too, it's really cute :)

Reflux...as in GERD. It's caused by stomach acid/food leaking back into the esophagus. It usually causes babies to spit up a much larger amount and more frequently than normal, makes them salivate and gag more, and sometimes causes them to be fussier than normal.
