I had mine in for five years before we decided to have it removed and start ttc for baby #3. When I had my mirena removed I was told that it would be best to wait until I had a couple of cycles so that I would know when I conceived but I was very impatient and we started right away. I got a positive pregnancy test after 4 weeks and we were so happy but a couple of days later I started cramping and bleeding. After another four weeks I got another positive pregnancy test and again we were happy. But a couple of days later I started cramping and bleeding again. After this happened to us a third time I went to see my ob/gyn and was finally told that it usually takes about 5-6 months for the hormone left by the mirena to be completely gone and that the left over hormone was causing me to have chemical pregnancies. I finally got pregnant 5 months after my mirena was removed and am expecting a baby boy in about 8 weeks. I wish I would have been told to wait 5 or 6 months before trying to get pregnant when I had the mirena removed, it would have saved me a lot of crying and heart ache.

I just told myself not to get my hopes up and just wait it out. As much as we want a third child it's worth the wait. I feel better and better every month so i am taking it as the hormones are going away. I am so happy my periods are back to normal and not all over the place and jacked up, my face cleared up, my sex drive is back up, and that I am not a moody mess for no reason anymore.

just updating everyone. we waited a few cycles so it took us 6 months to get pregnant including us waiting. Due date is February 14th 2014 and everything is looking great so far no complications.

I cramped a little when they took it out and bled and cramped for a day after removal. My removal process though was very complicated since my strings were wrapped around the IUD itself. My doctor told us to wait 2 months before TTC. I didn't get my period back til after those 2 months were up. Took us 4 months to get pregnant with my youngest daughter.
