Quoting Amelia Margaret:" I blame myself for trusting the doctors too much. I trusted my OB because I have received such excellent ... [snip!] ... which was very high. My water broke at 15 weeks and my cervix was never checked. He also does not wish to follow up with me."

How do they check for an incompetent cervix? Ultrasound?

Quoting Squeaky McGee:" Your OB sounds awesome, even if he is a hundred years old. I just want to find someone who takes my ... [snip!] ... seriously. If I want an extra ultrasound for reassurance, I should be able to get it, right? I mean, I'm paying for it."

Yup if you're paying for it! WTF not lol. He does NOT look his age at all! He's so bad ass too. Dude dresses more stylish and better than my husband does at 30 lol

Quoting Squeaky McGee:" I know of one MFM in town, but I don't know of any docs that specialize in 'high risk' cases. I know my OB isn't one of them. I'll talk to my mom about it. She works in NICU and knows several OBs."

Yeah, your mom should know. We have only two MFMs in town and they're both in the same practice. I'm in the process of getting authorization from my insurance provider to see an MFM my RE recommended about 2 1/2 hours away to be evaluated for cerclage (because MFMs where I live don't do that, effing incredible). When/if I become pregnant again I'll consult with the other MFM here and if he's on the same page as his partner, then I'll be traveling that 2 1/2 hours every other week.

My bad he's like 72. I thought he was 73 two years ago but he was 70.

Transvaginal ultrasound. I also believe I was dilating already at my 13 weeks appointment which he could have felt by hand if he'd bothered to check. Of course back then I didn't realize the symptoms I were having could be my cervix dilating so I didn't press the issue. He told me the earliest my cervix could be measured was 18 weeks, which I know now to be entirely untrue.

Someone my mom knows got her cerclage at 4 weeks. So if they let you try again. I'd insist it immediately.

Wow. I didn't realize they did them that early. I have no reason to believe that I have an IC, but it would still be nice to have it monitored, you know?

Oh you bet! I'm actually working on getting a transabdominal cerclage which is much more effective than transvaginal, but also much more invasive. It usually requires open abdominal surgery to place, is permanent, and requires a c-section. However it actually can and should be placed prior to pregnancy. The hard part is getting my insurance to cover it and I'd need to go to Chicago or New Jersey to get it done.

She had a history of IC losses. Sadly she got into a car accident and lost him in that the other day :(

They will measure it at your anatomy scan but for someone like you who has already experienced losses and are already nervous about a very precious pregnancy, I don't see why they shouldn't honor a request to have it checked regularly.
