Quoting *e.j. {slytherin}:" Dang! 4th grade! It sounds like blasphemy to me haha. 4th grade was when I discovered HP by happy coincidence, because my teacher assigned it to me as an extra book report."

Harry Potter wasn't out yet when I was in 4th grade lol. I read Sweet Valley books :) HP came out when I was about to start 5th grade, but I didn't get the first two books until 6th grade. I think that's right lol. I was 11 anyway

ETA- and just to clarify, I had read books before 4th grade lol. But they were all either Dr Seuss or something I had to read for school. The first book I ever read just to read something was Tall and Proud, and like I said, my mom made me :)

OMG I would have died if I had been 11 and read HP, I would have been so pissed that the owls hadn't come for me!

I know! My dad gave me the first two books for Christmas and I turned 11 two days later, which was the day I started reading them. Random and not related, but I saw a guy get struck by lightening that day too. True story

Quoting Klaus:" I'm worry about my son actually lol. DH and I are pretty much opposite in every way as far as our interests ... [snip!] ... he can recite some of his favorite books, so I hope that means he's on his way to a love of reading once he can actually read"

I'm an avid reader. Have been since I was a kid. I got it from my mom. My sister doesn't like to read and my brother's in between.

So was I. When I was in junior high I subscribed to a SVH book club that sent me four books a month in the mail. Book delivery days were the best days lol

I read Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley, and Goosebumps (only ones I can remember ATM). HP came out when I was in 6th or 7th grade.

My older sister isn't interested in books at all. My little sister has written a book and is working on her second one. Strangely, she isn't much of a reader lol

my grandmother went to bargain book stores and would send me them for every holiday. I think I still have them boxed away at my mom's house.

I read Nancy Drew, Babysitters Club, Goosebumps, Boxcar Children, a teen series called Love Stories that were all written by different authors, and PLL. I started reading HP in high school right before the first movie came out. I found out about it kinda late.

ETA: I was also reading various Stephen King titles. And in the 8th grade, my parents made me read Grapes of Wrath. *shudders* Such a dry book.

My actual list of single books extends longer, those were just the series I was reading. I'm amazed I had time to run around outside and be a kid.

Yeh i read sweet valley high at school t oo.lol.i loved. stephen king as well.i was part of a book club and you had to buy at least one book everytwo months. the box set with the first four harry potters was on the list as a new release at half price. it was the best investment i ever made. i started reading the first one when we were waiting in the car at the vets one night and they wanted to to read more when we got home. so i finished that book over a couple of days and kept going.it got to the stage though id read the rest for myself when they went to bed.
