I had cramping for like a month & bled for 6 months straight! I think since your body isn't used to having it in you may have cramps longer, at least that's what happened with me.

I had mirena once. I bled for months straight and the cramping came and went, but when it came, it was always severe. It hurt to even lay on my tummy which sucked because that's how I slept. My obgyn said to wait 6 months and the spotting/cramping should subside but I couldn't. All the side effects were too much for me. Take some tylenol or advil to help the cramps get manageable

basically your uterus has a foreign object in there and it's creating a hostile enviroment so no baby could survive in it. your body will realize that the iud isn't an infection or something, and the cramping will subside with time.
