Working out before 6 weeks PP? Carter&Violet♥ She Gone! 2 kids; Virginia 14177 posts

I'm sooooo ready to start crunches, elliptical & treadmill. I feel absolutely awful about my stomach. Would it be that big of a deal to start at 4 weeks PP than 6?

Call your doc and ask. Most would say it's okay, if you're feeling up to it, but to start slowly. Your body is still healing, and you don't want to hurt yourself by overdoing it.

Yeah I still have another week until she's 4 weeks- I just feel like starting two weeks sooner would make a big difference. Maybe I should start with walking.

I voted go for it. But I want to add it depends on how you.feel. I couldn't have done it after my first 2 but after I had my daughter I didn't even feel like I had a baby so I started slowly working out after 2 weeks. And my doctor was okay with it since I felt fine. He said as long as I.didn't over do it I was fine.

If you feel up to it, I would start slowly on the treadmill or elliptical. Just don't push yourself til after your 6 week appointment. I went rollerblading at 5 weeks pp and my pp bleeding started again. I would definitely wait on the crunches. You should give your abdominal muscles a bit more time to heal. They may still be separated at 4 weeks pp.

I have felt awesome since she was a week old- I'm just nervous about not following the rules. I feel like I could go to the gym and start where I left off, but I think it would be smarter to just walk for a couple weeks.

See the bleeding is what I'm worried about- I just don't want to chance getting put back in the hospital with two kids to care for.

I say wait. Only because when I started exercising in the elliptical when I was 4 weeks PP I started bleeding heavily again for 2 more weeks.

Well, you sound like you were in pretty good shape before getting pregnant, which is awesome. But, there are things going on INSIDE that you can't see. Just take it slow. There are abdominal exercises you can do, too. In my copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting" there were some good starting out exercises.

I'd hold off on doing anything hard core until 6 weeks. But if you feel well enough, you can start stretching and stuff. And if you HAVE to do the treadmill, just walk. It can be a brisk walk, but NO running just yet. You still have to give your body time to heal.

I had gotten down to almost my high school weight- I wanted another baby though so I didn't care about the weight gain but sheesh I feel so gross.

I started walking within days of having my son and it made a huge difference. I was cleared for sex and exercise around 4 weeks PP at my first appointment but walking doesn't count as working out so I think you'll be fine with just that and walking and breastfeeding is how I lost all my PP weight within 3 months.
I never even started working out because I felt great just from walking.
