Quoting FroggysMommy:" Why would she get sick to cook meat?"

some people are grossed out by meat.. and dont like it.. hence the reason they are vegetarian. it might make her "sick to her stomach" or something.

Im a vegetarian and while bloody steaks gross me out I can still cook meat. I just dont do it often because I have no idea if it tastes good, lol.

Honestly I know a ton of vegetarians that still cook meat... just didnt know why it would make someone sick just because they are vegetarian.

My parents took us on a working vacation to SD where my mom's main office is (Because my dad does their computer stuff) and we were at one of the bosses' houses for a cookout. He lives on a farm. And we're all eating steak... As the eldest son informs me that we were eating his pet.

I grew up on a farm. Mom would say "we're out of pork" and my dad would grab a shotgun and go fill the freezer. I know how to break down a carcass myself and can do it for beef, pig, deer, goat, sheep, fish, chicken, duck, etc.

We were a big hunting family too.

thats awesome! even though i hated it at the time, im very thankful my dad taught me things like that.. i only had to butcher a few deers and of course anything i shot I had to clean myself like the ducks and geese. by dad helped a friend with a cow and we had a half a cow in a freezer. it will deff help out if we ever cant go to the grocery store anymore.

See I wouldn't mind learning to slaughter my own meat. But I live in Las Vegas......not much in the way of farms here. LOL

Seeing as how my diet is already mostly vegetarian, I would have no problem with it.

If DH weren't military I'd go right back to that. My sis raises pigs and I'd raise goats and chickens and we'd hunt for deer, turkey, goose, etc and fish a LOT. Hard to do that when DH works 60hr weeks and deploys for months on end and we live too far to co op meats with family.

And base housing doesn't allow veggie gardens either! :(

As long as they were willing to eat the stuff I made that was the alternative I would support them in it for sure....even as young as say 4 or 5. I don't have issue with that. I will say we buy the vast majority of our meat off an organic farm & buy half a cow at a time, so our cow isn't butchered in the way mass butchering takes place, but if the child takes issue with the fact it is a dead animal, then that is their right (at least in my home it is). I won't force my child to ingest something that either disgusts them or makes them feel guilty. Now if money was tight & we lived on a farm & it is the way we put food on the table, they'd likely have to suck it up, but we just don't have the need to make them eat it, so we won't.
