Herbalife: is it b.s.? My Brain On Drugs TTC since Sep 2013; 33 kids; Elephant Butte, New Mexico 15758 posts

I joined a weight loss challenge and it was actually a trick to get me to buy herbalife products. However, I really liked their allergen-free blend (pea protein, and no sugars of any kind added) and I think I'll incorporate shakes into my diet and see if it makes a difference. There seems to be a ton of support. For example, I can call my coach anytime I feel like working out and she'll take me through the paces.

Has anyone else tried herbalife? Does it work?

And those who haven't tried it, because I apparently have 125 pounds of muscle now, I would have to eat 125 g protein every day (four ounces of pure protein). Does this seem healthy or likely to trigger weight loss?

I did it, my sister was also a coach. I hated it, I cant live on liquids. I cant do a liquid diet. And I would do a low cal breakfast and low cal dinner, I gained weight didnt loose. I think in order to actually loose you need to do 3 shakes for breakfast lunch and dinner. I failed with herbalife. But alot of ppl like it. Good luck.

They said 2 shakes a day and 4 or so substantial protein snacks every day. But I'm not a body builder. It seems like a crazy amount of protein.

I have a friend who works for them. She posts about them all the time on facebook but has never said anything about it to me.

In my opinion it would be most beneficial to speak to a dietician about healthy choices, and portion control. Once you start taking the fad diet shakes and supplements if you ever stop you gain all you've lost back. Change your eating habits in a positive way, and incorporate exercise. It will take longer of course, but the results will also be long lasting so long as you continue with it. I made the mistake of using Herbal Magic. Sure, I lost over 50 pounds. As soon as I stopped filling my body with their garbage I gained it all back and more! I have a LOT of work to do after I have this baby.

:!::!::!: I agree 100%. Everyone I know that has taken it and stopped gained the weight back plus some. So if this is something you plan on doing forever then go for it.

Definitely agree. Or if you do stop you have to continue to eat really healthy. It has to be a lifestyle change or it won't work.

Even continuing to eat really healthy. Your body becomes dependent on these supplements and doesn't remember how to work with real food. Best to stick with real food. I think with the long hard road it can take makes it more rewarding and easier to stick to as you've worked so hard to get to where you want to be. :)

the body actually burns more calories just by digesting protein and the fiber helps rid the intestines of ''junk''.....most people cannot either afford (financially or the time to count grams and prepare) acyual foods that have adequit protien & fiber in them. This is why so many ''fad diets'' incorporate ''shakes'' into them (the shakes are convienent balanced nutrition) People fail to keep the weight off when they discontinue the ''shakes'' because they are not replacing them w/foods that have comparable calories, protien, fiber, fat, and carbs to the shakes.
When your body is used to getting the nutrients it needs(w/the shakes) and then you abruptly stop, it can be a shock to your system and cause your body to ''store'' more fat to compensate for the lack of protien it was used to getting.....its a viscous cycle. Weight Watchers is the only system i have known to truely work because it teaches how to get the proper nutrition while eating ''everyday'' foods.

I agree with all of the skeptics on here. I am thinking I'll do one shake a day and see what happens. I love healthy food, but I've been eating it and not seeing any changes. Having something else in my arsenal seems reasonable. So I'm doing the Dr. Natura cleanse (caused me to lose 20 pounds in 2 months before I ever had a child) and this for a meal a day, exercising more, drinking way more water, cutting out sugar/white flour/salt and doing anything else I can think of to make this happen fast. I may end up eating mostly raw too. I have a great new raw cookbook I want to try.

like i mentioned b4 getting in the right amount of protein & fiber by food consumption alone can be very difficult....track a day of your normal ''diet'' and see how much protien and fiber u are actually consuming. then add in your ''shake'' protein and fiber count and make sure between the 2 you get in enough grams of each :)

Yep, thanks! I think I will try it. I have another day or so to cancel my participation in the challenge, but I do want to win the money. I just ate 2 cups of black beans (prepared from dry) with a tiny bit of dressing on them, which is a whole smurfing load of fiber and protein. I'll probably post my progress on bg over the next few weeks. :)
