You didn't say you just wouldn't let them watch tv, you said you would make them stay in their room for a week coming out only to go to the bathroom and eat :?

And writing "lines" (which I'm assuming is standards) is not appropriate punishment for an entire week either. One hand you're saying just no toys and video games. On the other, you're saying punishment is writing standards. Which is it?

Yes, which is 2 hrs a night in their room, but I also said that I have never done it with my 4 yr old, only my 10 yr old. I also said if it came down to that kind of behavior from her yes I would do it.

If the tv is on in the living room the said grounded child is not allowed in that room, there for being in their room is where they would be....kwim? I may have worded it too strongly........coming out besides eating etc....is not an issue as long as they are not in the room where a tv is on.

Are you kidding me, seriously.
If my kid talks back instead of sitting in a time out for 5 min, they write 5 lines of I will not talk back (or whatever it was they did) not for a week. lol Just till it gets done.

With their hands, and a pen and piece of paper.

Yeah I'm serious.... you didnt specify. How do I know? ... being grounded a week is SERIOUSLY extreme for a 4 year old, so who knows how many standards you'd have them write. I feel awful for your 4 year old who probably doesnt have the mental capacity or maturity to understand why they were so seriously grounded for something ALL kids that age do from time to time.

Again, as I stated more then once, I have never done this with my 4 yr old EVER...so read please. I said if they ever acted that way Yes I would do it.

My 4 yr old reads and writes and does math at a grade 1-2 learning level and understands at the age of a 6 yr old. Last time my dd wrote lines was in October. My oldest on the other hand is a little different in that department, but were talking 4 not 10.

So you dont have to feel sorry for anyone. :)

You stated you would... so I feel sorry for the kid, no matter how advanced they may be academically. They're still not emotionally mature, no matter what you'd like to think. Good luck.

It doesnt matter anyways, to each their own really. I would rather ground my child from tv for a week and have them write lines over physical punishment like spanking. Any day.

I dont judge other for spanking or standing their kids in the corner for timeouts. Different methods work on different children.

I dont spank either. When she calmed down, I would talk to my child so she understands that its not acceptable behavior. I would have her clean the room she messed up and possibly take away a favorite toy for a few hours, or maybe a day. At that age... that's about it. The 10 year old however, I think your punishment is more suitable for.

But like I said I never have done it with my 4 yr old. She has never done anything to get into trouble like that. But honestly if my 4 yr old acted that way, it would definately be at least 2-4 days of being grounded without tv or phone usage and outside etc.....

It's not the no Tv or video games. The lack of interaction with people is the problem. Taking away interaction is cruel. Sitting in my room and playing by myself the whole time I was home for a week would depress me a lot.

No kid should feel lonely for so long.

Quoting Blythe.:" wait how old is your kid? "

My niece, who lives with us and who we've helped raise since she was 10 months old, will be 3 1/2 in February.
Not that it's exactly relevant. I wouldn't have answered the question if I didn't have experience with toddlers.
