I have an almost 6 month old she throws fits to be picked up or if we don't do what she wants (bath, tv etc) I don't spank her would never go there but I have told her no, chill and play for a bit longer...she usually stops crying looks at me with a face of disblief that I caught her game and goes back to playing. my daughter is crazy smart and figured out how to work the system but I also can tell the difference between tired/hungry/hurt and when she's being a smart.

She's been alive for almost 6 months, I doubt she knows how to "work the system".

She's been my daughter for six months I think I know her better. It isn't like I ignore her she throws tantrums to get things or to get picked up just to rip stuff up. My daughter doesn't just sit around like most babies and never has believe it or not a lot of babies are smarter then they get credit for.

I never said I knew her better and I don't think you ignore her. Babies are extremely smart, But i just don't think she actually knows how to manipulate you into getting what she wants. Maybe it looks that way but I'm pretty sure she's not doing it purposely.

How about agreeing to disagree because I'm pretty sure this is going to be a giant circle if I continue to say anything other then that.
Op I see crazy ish like that on fb all the time and in my job. there is talking to a baby, redirection etc and then there is the stupidity of yelling at them scolding and spanking.

Oh wow. My DH gets mad when I don't let him spank our 2.5 year old. There is no way in hell anyone would spank my younger one. They know better. My sister popped DD when she was about 8 months old and I cusses her out. I do spank my almost 6 year old if he's really bad. But 99% of the time I can just talk to the boys and ask them to stop and they do.

I think people don't understand the differnce between curiosity and poor behaviour

That's what I was thinking... I would cuss my SO out if he EVER sat my son down like that and talked to him that way! My son is 2 we try to limit our cussing around him because he does slip up sometimes and throw the shit bomb every now and again lol I learned to cut my cussing down A LOT let alone cussing AT him! Smh.

I think spanking should be like a last resort. I've had to use spanking on my LO's but only when they do something really bad, like dangerous bad.

I think with really young ones you have to find what works best. With DS it was putting him down onto his butt on the floor. For some reason it was like the worse punishment in the world to him, lol.

With DD it's simply telling her no. She'll stop what she's doing and then cry.

Spanking a 7 month old is just stupid.
