My newb doesn't seem to have the sucking reflex... and its making it so hard to breastfeed. He latches fine bit has a really weak, ineffective suck. He also doesnt suck on your finger when you put it in his mouth and he doesnt root when you touch his lips or face....
Im at such a loss. I dont know what to do to get him to suck better.

thats something the pedi will want to see him about. my oldest didn't use a binkie or suck on her thumb but she did have a hard enough suck to eat. You may need to pump and find something that is a bit easier to release the milk from..especially if he isn't able to eat. if you dip your finger in sugar water will he suck on that? my daughter would suck on a binkie really hard when she would get a shot it was the only time but it would have to be in sugar water to get her to calm down..

I think breast feeding consultants are free? It's their job so I'm sure you could get your LO to latch and feed working with one!
