Anyone have a LO with tubes in their ears? Annalise has had them since October 2010, and she is starting to complain that her ears hurt. I know she has TONS of wax in them and I want to clean them out. Last time we were at the dr, they said that one tube is sitting in wax, but not in the canal. I am afraid that if I use Q-tips, it will just push the tube farther and hurt her.

Any ideas on how to clean her ears?

I don't know if the tubes are different now but I had them when I was a kid and a friend of mine's son had them last year and the tubes we both got were only supposed to be in for months, not years. It makes me wonder why they aren't worries that they haven't come out yet and why they aren't extracting a malpositioned tube or doing anything about the wax build up if that's causing her issues.

They told us they could last for years. I always ask why they don't just take it out if they know its not in the canal. Id hate for it to cause her MORE damage than anything

I don't have any LO's but when I was a toddler-young child I had them in twice. I was always getting ear infections. When I went to the doctors they would clean out my ears by tilting my head to one side and putting warm water in for a minute and then turning my head the other way and the wax would just pour out in clumps. It was gross, but worked really well.
I've tried those ear vacs but they are a POS.

If your child will cooperate that is a good method. I also found this link which basically the same thing I said but it uses a different solution to get the build up out.

Yeah, not too crazy about putting one of those in her ears. I might try the water if she will let me. She isn't too big on getting water on her face/ears

You can take a bulb syringe, a cup of some warm water/peroxide and suck up the water and squirt it in her ears then let all of the wax drain out (have her tilt her head)

Docs ordered an u/s to make sure it's not an abruption. Because of my ptl history they want to treat it like ptl even though they aren't going to confirm with a cervical check (don't want to make the area any more cranky than it already is). So I've been given indicid and adalad to calm the uterus as the monitor is showing some light contractions and steroids just in case. Possibly keeping me for the night
