I decline requests all the time. I also delete people left right and centre.

I decline it. If they message me, I ignore it. If they're persistent, I block them.

If someone tries to add me that I don't want to deal with, I just ignore their friend request. As long as you don't delete it they can't re add you and if they message you you have the option to block them. Then it's only awkward if you run into them irl lol.

I would ignore the message and friend request. :)

I believe you can change your account settings so that no one can "search" for you. But if they see you on a mutual friend's page, you're probably screwed.

I simply decline it, they will get the hint. As for messages, I have my settings set that only my friends can message me

In your settings you can make it to where people can't search your name, they can only see you or try to add you if you have mutual friends. You can also make it so that only your friends can send you messages.

Or you could completely block them, so then they won't see you, and you won't see them.

I have the same problems regarding FB. I ignore them and I remove people who aren't contributing to my page positively. However I automatically accept the people I see everyday, because you know this is serious shit for some people lol

You can decline it. If you decline it, it now asks if you know them outside of fb and if you say no, it wont let them add you again. You can always ignore messages and delete them.

I decline them. If people didn't feel the need to be my friend in high school are we suddenly in this realm of friendship where they need the play by play of my life and vice versa? Nope.
