Quoting PurpleBama582:" I don't believe that statistic, either. If it's unreported, how can you place a percentage value on the amount that go unreported. "

It's a sliding number based on people that come forward way after the fact. I've also seen about 55%, but it's usually always over half.

You think even HALF of rape victims want to put themselves through a rape kit and court and whatever else? You think abused girlfriends and wives report their rapes? You think embarrassed college girls who get date raped report theirs?

What fantasy world do you live in?

I do agree that rape and sexual assault are highly under-reported, so both statistics are off. This started as the OP asking for logical arguments, and a lot of it has turned emotional. I understand abortion is a highly emotional topic. I am not trying to change anyone's stance on it, though.

By defining your self as pro-life, yes, you are. That is the very essence of what you're doing. You are in favor of forcing women to birth babies they don't want, and making it the law to do so. Maybe you don't want to change minds...you just want to rule everyone's body with an iron fist.

There are some who want to forget it, and there are some who want to make sure that the guy who raped them pays for what he did. I have known women who were raped and they fall all along the spectrum.

If abortion ever became illegal, and I was pregnant with a baby I didn't want (raped or not), I would probably kill myself trying to do a home abortion.

In the end, how is the pro-life stance pro-life at all? Millions of women would probably do the exact same thing and die from severe infection after scrambling the contents of their uterus with a rusty coat hanger. Is that really what you want?

That is EXACTLY what happens and history proves it.

I would not carry a baby I did not want. I would do an herbal abortion and if that failed, find an underground doctor.

I don't go around saying that every woman who has ever had an abortion is going to Hell(mainly because I don't believe in Hell), nor do I try to make someone feel bad for choices already made. If someone asks my opinion BEFORE getting an abortion, I will simply state my opinion on it, but if, after that point, she still chooses to get the abortion, it's on her. I can't MAKE anyone do what I would do(and did). I am pro-life in that I DO believe life begins at conception and that whether it be called zygote, embryo, or fetus, it's a person.

In the US, you can compare the social heath of individual states and counties to each other. In states where it is more difficult to get an abortion vs states where it is not as difficult, overall social health is poorer. This means higher poverty rates, higher teen birth rates, higher violent crime, higher infant mortality rates, lower high school graduation rates, lower college attendance and graduation rates, higher unemployment rates, etc. This pattern is clear in the Bible belt most of all.

"pro-life" indeed

ALL being "pro life" means is that you want to change the laws to force everyone to act, or attempt to, according to your beliefs. Period.

Nobody gives a shit if you tell someone they're going to hell. You can say whatever you want to me, but keep your bullshit off the lawbooks.

Pro-life is a political position, it means you want abortion to be illegal for everyone. End of story

What about the Obamacare laws that are forcing Catholic businesses to provide birth control, when the Catholic church teaches against it? Isn't that forcing the pro-choice opinion, and forcing someone to act according to that belief?

Greater access to birth control means less abortion. I don't understand why people can't grasp this very simple concept.

Or women committing suicide on purpose because they feel so trapped.
