One of my FB friends (who is a lawyer) linked to this. It is just making my brain hurt for so so many reasons. Text below:
A Republican lawmaker in New Mexico introduced a bill on Wednesday that would legally require victims of rape to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial.
House Bill 206, introduced by state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence."
I just saw this too... So disgusting...
What the f**k.... seriously now?
Seems like a legitimate (...ly bad) idea. Whoop whoop!
Thats just, scary. Omg
Yeah , this is basically republican logic in a nut-shell:
Ffs that's disgusting. Hey let's just victimize this poor woman some more, and if she doesn't play by our rules we'll punish her. Some people are so dumb. I highly doubt it will pass because its so unconstitutional, but the mere fact that its even a proposed bill...ugh.
I am not suprised.
Quoting Boobie On Demand:" Ffs that's disgusting. Hey let's just victimize this poor woman some more, and if she doesn't play by ... [snip!] ... so dumb. I highly doubt it will pass because its so unconstitutional, but the mere fact that its even a proposed bill...ugh."
I would hope not. But..just... WHY??
How in the hell does this bill even make sense?!
<blockquote><b>Quoting MommyToWesley:</b>" I would hope not. But..just... WHY?? How in the hell does this bill even make sense?!"</blockquote>
It doesn't! I just don't get how someone could even think that this is remotely okay.
WTF?!? That's just cruel... to make a rape victim carry a pregnancy to term for "evidence". I thought the rape kit at the ER/doc's office was evidence enough?!?
That makes me f**king sick to my stomach.
They can just as easily get DNA off an aborted fetus if it's so important to them.
Plus a baby doesn't always prove a crime occurred. So what if they determine the sex was consensual (even if it wasn't)...she had that baby for NOTHING.
The supposed "intent" of the bill does not bother me because it would never be passed. It's the time and money wasted on this that makes me angry. Why is New Mexico paying this a*****e to introduce bills that are not constructive in any way?
