Quoting Jennifer Daly:" My newborn (just over two weeks) was given a pacifier at the hospital to help her stop crying so we could ... [snip!] ... it's a CONSTANT issue. Any advice? I'm only looking to get 3 or 4 hours of sleep at a time here, right now we are getting none."

I would persist with the swaddling instead! Maybe you weren't swaddling her tightly enough. Try swaddling her and then soothing her to sleep with the paci.

My LO has never been given a pacifier and she's been sleeping for 3-7 hours at a time.

Jut break her of it. It will be hell for a day or two but worth it.

3-4 hours is good for a 2 week old! My LG never slept for more than 2 hours at a time! Try a different shaped one. My LG could only keep the large oval type ones in her mouth. I would try stick to soothers. Absolute life saver!

I agree both my kids were given a paci at the hospital because they were in the nicu and the nurses kept putting them in their mouths every time they made a sound, but they both kept spitting them out or dropping them so once we got them home, we just threw the paci's away and they were just fine without them as long as they were being rocked to sleep, they both started sleeping through the night between 1-2 months old and we also never swaddled either of them.

they cause more bad than good in my opinion. a baby can easily fall asleep by being held, rocked, etc. babies don't NEED pacifiers. glad we are on the same page. thought I was the only anti-paci mom out there :)

Oh believe me. We wouldn't have given a paci, but if I didn't, my son would have been literally attached to my b**b all day and all night.

The thing that helped us is we gave both of ours a stuffed animal, my son uses his monkey to sleep, my daughter has a little monkey she likes to chew on
