Do you(Facebook question) ERMAGHERD BEEDS! 17 kids; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 4099 posts

Do you wish your kids happy birthday on Facebook? I don't. I'll make a "oh I can't believe (insert kids name) is this old!" But I don't make a happy "hey happy birthday!" Post unless the kid has a Facebook.
First time I actually thought about it was November
My stepdaughter is 12 and really, really wants a Facebook but isn't allowed to have one. So I didn't wish her happy birthday on Facebook, because that seems a little bit like taunting her... I talked about her birthday party and stuff, and how excited I was but didn't post a message to her saying happy birthday...

Now today is DSS's seventh birthday and I'm wondering if I should post one. I'm just trying to see what other people do. We're throwing a badass birthday party for him and I get to see him tonight and tell him happy birthday in real life (which I am so excited about... We didn't see him last year)

It just feels silly though. Like what do I do, sit down a seven year old and show him my Facebook? Lol... Or is the post just for everyone else?

If you didn't for one, I wouldn't for the other.

That's my other thought. It would seem like I was favoring one kid

I do but it's more like letting everyone else know thats it's their birthday. Like I will say "I'm wishing my little girl a big Happy 5th Birthday today!!"

I'm going to post "it's ***** birthday! Couldn't be more excited!"

That's good right? Facebook is weird, lol

I also just saw SO tagged me in a post already... So now I feel like a hanger on. Like "oh hey I remember it too! See?"

Lol whatever

I think i just say I cant believe ..... is ..... Happy birthday to ....... Not happy birthday .....

Also about your stepdaughter having a FB. I would let her have one before she goes behind yalls back and gets one. Make one for her. Set it to private and keep the password.

My sister in law has a "secret" account because her mother wouldnt let her have one at first (she is almost 13) and she set up a new one with friends from school. Now she was allowed one. But never uses it. I do have her password to the secret one though. So I can check up on her.

I think she should have one, too, for the same reason, but her mom disagrees and it's her call more than mine. Last weekend she tried to make a YouTube account after SO told her not too. I'd rather she have one and we have the passwords.

Yeah, now that i think about it. Alot of my fb friends do that no matter what age their child is.

True. Maybe you can talk to your husband so he can talk to the mom. Better monitor then to have her sneak and something bad could happen.

I dont even have a youtube account

Yeah all of mine do but I think it's silly. I know parents that have no involvement in their kids lives and post these

"SCREAMING FROM THE TOP OF MY LUNGS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY PRINCE. CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE 10 love you!!!" And it's like you know they aren't with their kid, aren't gonna be with their kid, and if their kid does happen to stumble across the Facebook it'll be more of a slap in the face than anything.

I think that's different from just saying "oh my gosh it's *** birthday, can't believe how fast he's growing!"

Wishing someone happy birthday somewhere they won't see it seems weird to me

No I don't wish DS a Happy Birthday on FB. I will post on FB that it is his birthday and I can't wait to spend the day celebrating it with him and DH but no I think it is a bit stupid to post Happy Birthday directly to them somewhere they will never see. It's like if you compare it to posting their birthday card to an address they don't live at or organising a Happy Birthday announcement at a place you know they won't be lol
