You be a judge. The butt of this very good-natured joke, such that it is, is a little bit the white guy for taking on his new accent

I saw it the other day and it definitely stuck out to me. I thought, "Damn, a lot of people are going to get butt hurt over this..." It didn't offend me though. I can let shit like this go without thinking twice (no matter what race is being "made fun of"). I think making a big deal about it at all is racist in itself, if that makes sense. Making a huge deal about race only further perpetuates the belief that people are different because of varying skin colors. Why not just treat everyone the same, harmless jokes and all? I get how it would be offensive if they were using the 'n word' but that's not the case here, not even close.

People need to chill out.

IDK - I didn't think a thing of it. We are huge Bob Marley fans & I talk to Sh & my kids in a Jamaican accent to be silly. I also do a pretty good Spanish accent when I read Skippyjon Jones & I definitely have a great German accent when I am impersonating my old stern great gramma & I have a few others that are pretty iffy - but I try to do them anyway - like my very proper (but terrible) British accent when I am pretending to be supernanny. In all those cases, the only person I am making fun of (if in fact I making fun) is myself....like if Dh comes in from work & the house is messy because I have been busy & he's a crab I say "Whatcha stressin on brudda...come een, dung down..don worry so"...and then laugh. Jamaican is the accent for when things seem stressed, German is for naughty kids, British is for when I am trying to be more refined, Spanish is for reading Skippyjon, and others are as they come up (like when I am playing I am a spy with Ds - I try to sound Russian - that is my worst one I think - I don't sound Russian at all since "darlingsk" for darling is as close as I get).

I don't think it's racist, I asked my bf who is from Martinique and speaks creole (meaning that he has a very identifiable carribean accent when he speaks French) and he doesn't find it offensive. I don't really think you could class it as racist anyway, whilst the majority of Jamaicans are black there are other ethnicities living there who speak with a Jamaican accent, so I'd say at worst it could be xenophobic as it plays on national stereotypes.

This commercial tells me that: White people are too uptight and need to be more like Jamaicans. And the best way to do that is through German engineering.

This quote made me laugh so hard. Thanks. :)
