I still have a few months before im starting but how do you introduce whole milk? If he was drinking 8oz of formula how would I add in the milk gradually? Sorry I worded this terrible, I'm so confused.

My understanding is I'd make 6oz formula and add 2oz of milk to make an 8 oz bottle. Is that correct. To me it just don't seem right. Idk.

I would at first do one bottle of 4oz formula 4oz whole milk for about 1 week then 2 bottles a day of 4oz formula 4oz whole milk for 1 week and keep adding until all bottles for the day are half and half then start doing the opposite so 1 full bottle of whole milk for 1 week then 2 full bottles of whole milk for a week then continue until all bottles are whole milk.

Hope that made sense

Should add that's how my ped explained to help with weight problems she was a skinny kid....if you really want the best advice for your baby maybe the ped would be the best to ask:)

Thanks! Makes sense now. He's 9 months now so we have time. Do people start at 11 months so by 12 months they're on milk? Or wait until 12 months and be off at 13 months?

I just slowly started adding more milk & less formula until LO was only drinking milk. It took around 2-3 weeks to make the transition.

We did a lot quicker transition. Probably changed him over in about a week. 2 oz of milk per bottle for a couple days, then 4 oz per bottle for a couple days and so on. DS was on regular formula and we had been giving cheese and other dairy products so we knew there wouldn't be a lactose issue.

When we transitioned DS his pedi said to put 2 oz of milk w/6 oz formula for a week, then 4 oz each for a week, then 6oz milk w/2 oz formula for a week...you do this with every bottle...start at 11 months and by a year they will be on milk.

I like someone else said was already giving milk based products like cheese so we did 2 oz for a couple days and then 4 oz each for a while.

Thank you :) and thanks to everyone else too. Two months to go until we can do it.

before i gave my lo milk, i checked with my doctor to see if i need to do anything. since she was on similac sensitive and he said that it was lactose based anyway and there should be no issue what-so-ever switching - and there wasn't. i didn't ease her in to it or anything. she loved it and had no issues at all. :) good luck!

Most formula is lactose based you still shouldn't switch straight to milk...that doctor sounds like an idiot.

My pedi had me switch at 12 months she was fully transitioned over around 13 months
Every baby is different and pedi will suggest different things based on circumstances like my DD was very sensitive to new foods and needed extra calories from formula so whatever you feel your baby can handle do that:)

Depends on the kid and their tummy on how quickly you switch them over. Christopher took about a full month to switch, but we did it slow since he had JUST outgrown the milk allergy and was having potty issues upon switching to whole milk.

DD started whole milk straight at 9 months old, with no issues at all She started of with 1/c so 125ml (4oz) once a day then we upped it every week and so on, she is 1 today and has just been on whole milk for almost a month now. She grew tired of formula so I stopped giving it to her.

She was fine, no gas no upset tummy no poop issues. But she was also only ever on table foods and had a good stomach for yogurt and cheese and so on.
