I supplied my entry for worst mother of the year today. My 17 month old and I went for a walk on the beach earlier since it was such a lovely day. He was in his stroller and I was either pushing him or stopping to pick up rocks and shells. We were the only ones on the beach.
Well, the beach just got re-nourished so it's a bit steeper than usual and we reached this one part where it was deceivingly steep. I stopped the stroller, popped one of the two brakes on, and bent down to pick up a rock (I'm a nerd, I know). I was squatting when I turned around to look and my son was IN THE FREAKING WATER!!
In the three or four seconds I had turned around the brake had disengaged (probably because I didn't kick it in place hard enough--it's easy to do with our stroller) which allowed the stroller to roll on down into the actual ocean. The waves were breaking and everything. Obviously I immediately ran out and grabbed him just before the water reached his seat. I was wearing knee high boots and the water reached the topped of them (but didn't get in... yay for spending $30 on cheap Target boots that stayed waterproof!). He didn't act like anything had happened and was smiling away. This photo was taken maybe five minutes later:
Not even a drop got on him =)
P.S.: Before anyone yells at me, I know I'm not actually the worst mother of the year. I still felt pretty shitty but we all make mistakes. Fortunately mine didn't end in a bad way today!
And now for random BoogerBear pics from the past two months:
Dada and Jameson. He can walk pretty well on his own now!
"Gah, Mama... I'm trying to eat dis finch fie."
Dancing to Dora. (Don't mind the digs... It's temporary housing until March. I would never decorate my place like this, lol.)
Best frans... Unfortunately they're back in GA =( When all of them were together they looked like triplets.
 Holy shit. I would freak out!
Could have happened to anyone, just glad to hear hes alright. Cute pictures by the way. =)
Quoting Soon 2B Mom of 2:" Holy shit. I would freak out!"
It happened so fast I didn't have time to freak out. I think motherly instincts are pretty darn amazing... I didn't think about the water one bit, I just ran right in.
Quoting They call me mama.:" Could have happened to anyone, just glad to hear hes alright. Cute pictures by the way. =)"
Sometimes I'm amazed that any of us as parents manage to raise healthy children in one piece considering all of the accidents that happen along the way.
I would have
A. Screamed my fool head off running for my son.
B. Got my sons stroller out of the water.
C. Proceeded to go home and change my pants and underwear, having shit myself.
Glad he is alright, and certainly not the worst mother in the world. :)
Quoting Derp:" It happened so fast I didn't have time to freak out. I think motherly instincts are pretty darn amazing... I didn't think about the water one bit, I just ran right in."
I bet you freaked out afterwards lol. Thank goodness he is ok!
Quoting *Mary Moon*:" I would have A. Screamed my fool head off running for my son. B. Got my sons stroller out of the water. ... [snip!] ... and change my pants and underwear, having shit myself. Glad he is alright, and certainly not the worst mother in the world. :)"
I'm surprised I didn't scream. I didn't make a sound... Instincts took over and I just charged out there after him, lol. The water is no more than 50 degrees and I didn't feel a thing... Normally I can't stick a toe in it when it's this cold but I was so full of adrenaline that I didn't notice the water at all. Looking back on it, it's pretty cool how your instincts and body work together in situations like this. In that moment of time I probably could have done just about anything.
