Cancer?! Brody, Astoria & Slader's 3 kids; Oregon 2029 posts

A few weeks ago, my son & mom collided and he twisted his leg. It swelled and then went down. Recently, it came back so I took him in today. Expecting to hear he had a muscle tear or sprain, at worst, the dr. comes in & tells me he believes my son has cancer. He said him falling has nothing to do with the swelling he's had, that it's actually a large mass at the end of his femur. He came to this conclusion after feeling it & a simple x-ray. He's referred us to OHSU in Portland for a biopsy. Naturally, I'm freaking out. I don't understand how if this is cancer, why did the swelling only show up after he twisted his leg? The dr. said I probably just didn't notice, but this is the same dr. he saw for his 4 yr check up just 4 months ago, wouldn't HE have noticed this huge tumor?! Maybe I'm just in denial but it just doesn't add up to me. I know most of you aren't drs. but I'm just sitting around until next week when we get the biopsy. Has anyone ever gone through a cancer scare? How likely is it he's correct from just looking at an x-ray & feeling it? Any other ideas on what it could be? I'm trying to stay off google as I don't want to end up freaking out even worse. Any help, support, ideas, prayers are appreciated!

Wow that's terrible. Hopefully it's nothing but something more minor than cancer, like a cyst. I'll be thinking of you? M gma thought she may have had breast cancer, but it only turned out being a cyst. Good luck! Keep us updated!

Thank you :) OHSU finally called today. He has an appointment for an MRI & meeting w/ an orthopaedic specialist on Wednesday, most likely followed by a biopsy. I know there's a myriad of things it can be so I'm trying to stay hopeful.

I'm here for you. I haven't a child that possibly could have cancer but my dad had cancer. I recognize its not nearly the same as a child.
