I have never heard of this before either. I thought genital herpes was the only thing that would show up vaginally. But the nurse said otherwise. He did not do an oral swab which I kind of expected him to do. I am very glad to be feeling better and able to eat again. Hopefully I won't have any other issues from this in the future.

They are 2 different strands of the virus. You can get type 2 (genital) in your mouth, and you can get type 1 (oral) on your genitals. I have type 1 vaginally, and orally, which sounds like you have the same. I think what the nurse ment was that your a carrier for the virus but not to worry about it unless you have an outbreak? Did they prescribe you any preventitives?

Oh so he said you have herpes complex 1 on the vagina. That I have heard of. If someone with cold sores goes down on you it can be passed vaginally :( sorry momma

Yes this is exactly what I have. They are not prescribing anything to me unless I have an outbreak. Which hopefully I will just have the one time.

I have been a carrier for a while of the type 1 herpes. I used to get cold sores atleast once a month in college and high school. I never knew until now that you can get it vaginally. Just never crossed my mind.

I really hope your one of the lucky ones, but I have hsv 1 genitally like you and i had constant out breaks for two years.

One thing you have in your favour though is that you also have it orally. So it means you may have had that first so your anti bodies are stronger which means your immunity is higher and you may get less out breaks.

You should read up on Hsv1 genitally, because there are lots of triggers for it. You may also get symptoms before an outbreak. Lower back pain, tingling in the genitals.

Also you can pass on HSV 1 genitally when you are not experiencing any symptoms at all. It's called viral shedding.
Again I hope your lucky and don't have another ob, but just sharing some information so you can be more prepared. I wish someone had done that for me.

You can be a carrier of type 1 and only get cold sores on your mouth. But it can be passed from.the mouth to the genitals causing genital outbreaks. I get cold sores in my mouth bc I have complex 1 but not on my vagina. Did this guy give you oral? That's probably how you got it caginally. Unless you were already exposed before. Complex 1 is not an std and doesn't pop up on your vagina unless it was exposed to a sore.

You can take 2 valtrex if you get a cold sore on the mouth ans 2 12 hours later to suppression outbreaks. Also l lysine works too. Glad you are feeling better.

Great info, thank you so much. Yes he did give me oral and that's what I figured happened was he had a sore or was getting one. Sucks that it happened at all but thankfully it was something "easy" and not as serious as it could have been.

Yes while it's technically not an STD.
You can actually transmit the virus through sharing towels etc..
It is possible.. I mean if I had a sore and used a cloth then used that same cloth on my face.. I could transmit it.

I'm just saying this.. again not to scare you.
But this is how lots of kids get it, parents thinking its okay to share towels etc.. and generally it's not.

That's a good point I never thought of. I don't share towels with my girls but I will make sure to be extra diligent about them using their own and not mine. Thanks!

i have anver heard of anybody getting it through a towel. but I am sure it is possible but rare. Most people get it by kissing or oral.
