My boyfriend and I are moving in together to our own place, my question is how much should I help with, meaning expenses like rent, groceries etc? Thank you

Wouldn't you combine your money? I mean moving in is a pretty big step, so I'd think you would combine it.

:!:

And if you're not going to combine it, it's hard to say without knowing how much each of you make and what the expenses are.

When my DH and I first moved in together we did a 50/50 split. We didn't get a joint account or anything until we got married. Even then I had my own and he had his own but the other one had access to it.

When we first moved in together I was in school travelling over an hour so he paid everything. When I graduated and got a job we split everything 50/50. To this day we still split everything 50/50. We're married and have a joint account but both have our own accounts that our pay checks on into. Obviously one or the other pays more for some things but it evens out. It all depends on what works well for you.

We have a couple friend that still split EVERYTHING 50/50. Like we're at a restraunt and as soon as the bill arrives one has to etransfer their Half to the other lol. If one buys a few groceries then the other has to give them half if the $$ towards it lol. They're getting married in 2 months lol

When we didn't have a roomie it was 50/50 and we used to buy our own groceries too. Now we both buy groceries when we need them and don't worry about paying each other back. We take turns buying household items and stuff for the cats.

Me and my fiance' don't have a joint account or anything but we do everything half and half. We make sure we pay an even amount each on rent and the bills. I usually do the grocery shopping but that's just because he gets paid weekly, so he gets less than I do in one check (I just buy enough groceries to last us two weeks and go all out when I get paid), he also takes care of whatever our dog needs, but if I can't afford a bill or something, I pay what I can and he covers it for me since I take care of groceries.
