Quoting Pistol Amber:" Once you start running you will LOVE the high it gives you."

I'll second that! If I go more than a day without running I am cranky. I went a week last month and I could tell a huge difference in my level of patience with my boys and lack of energy!

Have you tried interval training first? Google interval training for treadmills and try that for a few weeks. It burns more calories.
