Canada lottery issues Legendary 2 kids; Beverly Hills, California 59518 posts

So the title isn't great but if you live in Canada it's roll up the rim time again! (Some places in the US too!) Every year this comes around we run into the SAME issues.

So this is roll up the rim. You buy a coffee (sometimes for you and a friend or co-worker) you drink it and then you roll up the rim and it tells you if you won. Everything from cars to money to a free coffee.

The issue we have EVERY year is someone buys a coffee for someone else and they win big. Then the person who bought it wants in on their winnings.

I'm certain in the US there are contests like this, maybe on bottle caps or something similar.

If you won on a cup your friend bought you would you share it? or hand it over? Or keep it? Would it depend on what you won?

Debate and discuss!

I'd share some if it was money.. If it was like a car though? I'd keep it myself..

A boat, or rv? I'd share. lol

Typically people exchange whatever they get for a monetary sum. So instead of a car they take like $16k, would you give the person who bought you a coffee $8,000 from it?

If the coffee is someone else's then the prize is rightfully theirs. It is up to them to decide whether they share it with whoever purchased it. Which, imo it would be the least they could do, but it would also depend on what the prize is. Cash? I'd shoot the buyer a share. A car? Thanks bud, but you're out of luck.

Yes. I would.

Because, if someone gave me this as a "gift"/ coffee it would be a good friend or family member. I don't keep in touch with too many acquaintances.

I think the same, I would likely not tell them I won but if I rolled it right infront of them, depending on who they are, I'd give them half I think, or offer it.

But if I buy you a lotto ticket for your birthday do I own rights to half your winnings?

Anyway someone sues like every year over this shit.

I guess I would share (unless it was a cup of coffee. Lol)

I did have a coworker buy me a $1 scratch off lottery ticket for my birthday and I didn't share that though. It was a birthday gift. Where's the sense in giving a gift, only to expect something back from it? She looked pissed when she found out I won $20 :? People are weird.

But if it was just a courtesy cup of random coffee, I'd share.

If I paid for the coffee, I'd keep the money.

If they paid for the coffee, I'd pay them back for the coffee. :P

The way I see it is if you buy yourself a coffee and one for me, and I win on it. If you hadn't bought one for me it's not like you would have won, the guy behind you in line would have. You're still out the same $1.50 you'd be out if I didn't win.

I wouldn't expect someone to give me half, or even any. It would suck and I would probably be PISSED that they won, and I didn't...but oh well. It would be nice if they shared some, but I wouldn't expect it & risk losing a friend over money. That's why I just wouldn't ever buy anyone something like a lotto ticket or a contest item.

I just won a coffee :) but we were at a bar once and hubby's friend bought 10 pull tabs and gives one to hubby! Hubby wins 200$! So we just paid the tab for all our friends at the bar including hubby's friend and wife. I would probably be nice and give the person who bought me the coffee some money.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect someone to give me a cut if I did they buying, but I would personally share if I did win. That's me.

I guess it's just a courtesy thing. I wouldn't expect anything but I would maybe offer depending on who bought it and how badly I valued their friendship.

I'd like to say I would split it if someone bought it for me but I would probably only give a portion of it. I wouldn't expect someone to give me half of their winnings if I bought it for them as a gift. If it was a car or something like that then no it would be all mine haha.
