The Catholic churches teaches that priests (and nuns for that matter) take a vow of celibacy so they can better serve their parishes. If they're celebate they will have more time/energy/etc to devote to their flock rather than having to split it between family and church duties.




Though the landholding thing makes total sense. Lol

I think it's a great move. I hope it happens as it would be a big, positive change. Lots of men feel very committed to the Catholic Church but also want the personal love and I timacy of marriage.
While the history of not allowing marriage is correct, the current, more practical reason has to do with dedication to the community and not a family. It's part of their sacrifice.
