Quoting KNZ.:" i had my first at 16, and my mom is actually the one who informed me on all of it and helped me make ... [snip!] ... be annoying though if she was giving you a hard time for it! thank god she's grandma and doesn't have a say at least  :D "

Oh that's good. If I had a baby at 16 I probably would've gotten him circ'ed because I didn't know better. But at least my mom encouraged me to breastfeed in the beginning....even though she's encouraging me to wean now. Oh well lol.

Just think ahead.
My SO was completely against DS not being circ'd, but now it hasn't even been discussed since he was born. I think SO didn't understand that it's NOT a big deal, his penis doesn't look weird or wrong or dirty. He's totally comfortable with it now.
I wish I had better advice. But truly, just know he's not going to give a crap 6 months from now. Or sooner. Hopefully he'll meet the little guy and decide he doesn't want to hurt him for no reason.

Quoting KNZ.:" This isn't a debate, really just questions for people who were against circ'ing their sons. and not ... [snip!] ... i'm just at the point where it's not even a discussion to have. Any advice on how you dealt with this would be appreciated."

Before we knew this baby was a girl, I worried about making the right choice for my potential son. I wound up leaving the decision to DH because he is male and I am not. I felt it was a decision that he could have better insight on than I ever could since I've never had a penis or had to be 100% responsible for one.

BUT!!! It's a little different for my DH than most people's SO's. The reason is the DH was NOT circumcised as a baby. However, he got an infection at the age of 6 and had to be circumcised at that point. Because of this, he was 100% for our son getting circumcised. I felt confident in his decision on this because he had experienced it both ways.

The fact that your SO wants it done for cosmetic reasons...what does he mean? It's just because he thinks it looks better? If that's the case, ask him if he'd allow his son to get plastic surgery at a few months old to fix a crooked nose...just so he looks better. PM the same thing. If it's for other reasons...like his beliefs in cleanliness or whatever...then I would be more understanding.

Again...it's something that I worried about, but felt comfortable with the decision being DH's...as long as it was for viable reasons. But not everyone feels that same way.
