My five year old is the class clown AwkwardAndSilent 2 kids; Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 57 posts

My son has been going to preschool for years. This is his last year in preschool and then next year he will be in Kindergarten. I'm trying to nip a HUGE problem we have in the bud. He is the class clown. He is EXTREMELY loud and disrespectful to the teachers. He throws fits when he loses or doesn't get chosen. If he doesn't want to do something, he simply wont. He is very very intelligent. They say he's already thinking on an almost 1st grade level.
When he is at home he is great. I have a 2 month old daughter but the problem of his actions started before I was even pregnant. Anyway, he is very sweet and caring at home. He helps his dad and me with things and he only acts up when he is around other people.
His teacher has talked to his dad and me and we just don't seem to be able to help him realize the consequences of his actions. I think she has basically given up on him and is waiting for him to graduate preschool and leave her class. He hates school because he's always getting in trouble.

He has a physical coming up for Kindergarten and I plan to talk to his doctor about his behavior issues. Does anybody have any suggestions? We have tried rewarding his good behavior and making him earn tickets to be able to earn time playing his games. We took away his tv in his room because he had an awful day at school the other day where he was pushing kids and mouthing off to the teacher. I have him doing chores to also earn tickets. Like I said, his big problem is when he is around other people the kid goes nuts and is defiant.

:!:

We figured that out with my 5 year old. He's extremely ahead academically but is behaviorally "bad"... He's skipping first grade.

Well he just turned 5. He will be going to Kindergarten in the fall. He started going to this nursery school when he was 18 months, I went with him. It was like a mommy and me class. Then after that he went to just normal nursery school classes. But I think you all are right he is bored. Seems senseless to pay for preschool when he hates it, doesn't seem to need it, the teacher hates having him and I hate getting bad reports.

If you can. Get those workbooks at Walmart and do those with him and put him in Kindergarten next year, or ask about going straight to 1st grade.
