Were you put under for your csection? SaucyPoppet Due July 10 (girl); 1 child; Colorado Springs, Colorado 1172 posts

I need to have a csection this pregnancy, and I'm going to have to be put under completely like before. But it was 13 years ago and that one was an emergency, this one will be scheduled. But how long were you out for? I forgot to ask the doctor last time I spoke with her and I'm just curious how long from putting me out to when I'll be awake and be able to hold her.

Only for my emergency one! My TWO scheduled ones I was awake for both. Is there a reason you have to be put under? I'd be fighting tooth and nail to be awake if there isn't.

Because I'm allergic to narcotics and the epidurals don't work on me. They did two for my first one, and tried to numb the area but I felt them cutting into me so they had to knock me out entirely. Doctor did some tests and she said I am just not susceptible to the spinals because of spinal injuries I received in an accident when I was younger and they can't just drug me out of the pain since I'm allergic :(

Why do u have to be put under? One of my friends said 1/2 hr she was nursing her LO. Some have said they were so drowsy they couldn't stay awake for hours and some didn't see or hold their LO til the next day.

:/ Eek. I would hate to be put under but sounds like you have no choice. From my first, emergency, I was out for a few hours. But it could have been because they'd put the legal/highest dosage of the epidural in my system because I felt them cutting me open before they knocked me out. I'm sure it will only be 30-90 minutes if that. If you're nursing, absolutely demand that baby not get formula while you're still out.

It's posted above your question.

I had to have an emergency one 13 years ago, and I almost bled out so that one had a lot of complications and I just can't remember honestly how long it took me to wake up :( Going to make sure they hand her straight to my husband though so she is with one of us at least until I wake up :) Going to make him do chest to chest contact with her till I can LOL

Oh yeh it's in my birthing plan that she isent to get any kind of formula, sugar water, pacifiers, nothing and that I intend to exclusively breastfeed. It's also in there that all procedures are done with myself or DH present. Thankfully my OB is amazing and she'll be the one performing the csection so I am strangely comfortable with the whole thing, I like her a lot and trust her already, she's been really great so far :)

So I'm assuming there's a medical reason why you're not attempting a VBAC?

Hopefully it won't take you too long to come out of the anesthesia. I've never been put under for either of mine.

While it is my choice either way, this is because I don't have the option any more due to a giant hernia that will explode if I push out a shit let alone a baby.

No surgeon will touch a pregnant woman unless it's life threatening. SO unless it gets incarcerated I have to wait till afterwards. I also need to have surgery on my leg because a screw in my ankle is snapped in half, I just have to suffer through it until after the baby comes and then have to have a hernia repair surgery and leg surgery right afterwards :( Going to fucking hate my life for awhile that's for sure :-S

Since you are being put under, is your DH allowed in the room? I know when I had my emergency one, he wasn't allowed in the room. My OB was the one that did my last c-section. He was my doctor the entire pregnancy so like yourself, I trusted him completely. He did a wonderful job and I was in no pain at all (maybe because it was my third and I knew what to expect) Good luck!!!
