Cravings for pregnancy "no-nos" The Pretender 2 kids; Brazil 1232 posts

So here is my conundrum:

I don't smoke. I haven't drank a drop of alcohol since TTC, I have not gotten into hot-tubs (even though my parents have an AWESOME one and it was snowing while I was visiting them and it would have been heavenly), I have only eaten sushi that has no un-cooked meat in it (Think... cucumber roll. Still delicious but not real sushi, in my book), I 've been ordering my burgers and steaks cooked well.... and I'm sure there are a dozen other things I haven't had because I was pregnant but really wanted to.

The only thing I've really been lax on was that I eat Jimmy Johns about 2 times a month. WhooptyFrick.

So here is my issue-

I'm leaving for Peru today. I'll be there for about 10 days.

AND I AM DYING TO EAT MY BODY WEIGHT IN TASTY SEAFOODS AND CEVICHE!!!

The problem with seafood is that I am not sure about what has mercury and what doesn't... but that isn't really my issue.... my issue is that I REALLY FREAKING WANT CEVICHE!!!!!

Anyone ever have Peruvian Ceviche? It is AMAZEBALLS! So lemony, tart, salty, delicious...

I know that no matter what, I will end up with diarrhea for about 2 weeks total reguardless of what I eat.... because this is my 4th trip to Peru and I have never been able to avoid- however careful I am- the nasty diarrhea. Sometimes with blood.

So why not have some tasty Ceviche? I know the whole deal with Listeria... but... shoot....... It's ceviche!!!!

Thats what I think too! My mom didn't know to not stay away from everything and I turned out *ok*. What is worse is that my father in law and mother in law are Ob-Gyns and Pediatricians in Peru and I know they'll be like, "Eat Ceviche!" But Amercian guts/immune systems are VERY different from Peruvians....

if you think of it, Ceviche is cooked. Just lightly from the acid from the lemon. It`s cut so thin or chopped finely that the acid can cook it. So you`re not eating it raw.

I usually eat shrimp ceviche mmmm.....but I am pretty sure shrimp is fine in pregnancy, but I was also told to limit my seafood intake no matter what it was to 2 times a week.

Eh, the ceviche I'm thinking of is in decent sized chunks and is fairly Raw in the middle. You're right to a degree though- the acid from the limes denatures the proteins in the fish and "cooks" it to a degree. But you're still eatin the "marinade"... Freakin delicious.

Glad I wrote this thread, though, ya'all are making me feel better :)
