Supposedly, they can snuggle next to it or scoot/roll over/whatever and put their faces against it and smother. Also some people think it decreases the air flow (something about keeping in more carbon dioxide and not letting enough good oxygen through) and can contribute to SIDS (yes I've read this somewhere but can't remember where). Honestly, I used one for my son bc he kept getting his feet caught in the bars and guess what. He STILL kept getting caught lol just not as frequently. I skipped it with my daughter.

Honestly it does. Every few years they change from back to tummy sleeping, bumpers no bumpers...I just do what I feel is right by my kids lol

I don't think you do. I got one with my first thinking I needed one. With my son though, I just got crib sheets and cute minky blanket that hangs on the side for decoration when he's not using it. Much cheaper.

Suffocation/sids.... But my mom used them for all 3 of us and we were fine lol. I still am not going to risk it tho. Looking into getting breathable bumpers

What's a minky blanket? Like a decorative one?

You definitely dont need them. The girls both have one and I used them but you can definitely go without one. And I use the bumper pads too.

They're basically just really soft blankets, the material is called minky.

This is the one my son has, and my daughter has the same one but pink
