Racist Grandparents. *D&D with poll* Vodka Knockers 1 child; North Carolina 8063 posts

If either your parents or your child's father's parents were openly racist, would you be comfortable letting your child go around them?
And by openly racist, I mean uses several racial slurs regarding a variety of races other than their race in conversation, regardless of the audience, including your child. Said grandparent is not willing to change, as they believe they are exercising freedom of speech.

Just curious.

Perhaps if I was there with them, to monitor what was being said...maybe. Alone? Doubtful.

I wouldn't do it often. But I would not never let them be around them. They should hear it and know that that type of behavior is not something that is acceptable.

I'm very interested to hear the logic/reasoning behind the people who answered 'no'.

Yeah, my dad openly says the "n" words and rants sometimes. As long as he doesnt curse around LO, he can say what he pleases. It doesnt mean my LO is going to follow in his footsteps...I didnt.

My SIL is racist against Caucasion people. I would never let my son alone with her and my husband or I need to be around him at all times when she is near

She is openly racist and will make fun of my son to his face

Not only would my kids not be around them, I wouldn't be around them either.

Are racial slurs included in the curse word group? Just curious.

My FIL is.
But I have made it damn clear that I will not tolerate it, and he is not to say anything of the sort around me or my kid(s)

My grandpa was openly, not over the top, but everyone knew it. It didn't affect me or how I grew up at all.

Sure. It would be a good teaching example about what bigotry is and how it could hurt.
