It's no ones business what people spend their money on. What the help is your definition of poor? We pay our mortgage and our bills and keep our kids cared after. After that we don't have much left over at all, if any. Is that poor? You best believe if we have a few extra dollars we will buy beer or pot with it. My motto is do what makes you happy. If that means buying an 1/8 so be it. At least they aren't poor and miserable.

That quote makes absolutely no sense.

Make a dollar, spend a dollar. Surely.....These people make more than a dollar...or more than 30 bucks a week. So, what are they doing with the rest of the money they make? How can you know?

Also.......DH and I didn't have the money to buy a washer and dryer up front. So, we rented one. I paid 40 bucks a month..for a few months..to have a washer and dryer at my house so I didn't have to take clothes to laundry mat every other day. The washer and dryer are not why we are "society poor."

People are poor because of lack of income, lack of a large income, and high product prices. Life is not cheap. Generally speaking.

I do think that is an entitlement issue. "Just because I'm poor doesn't mean I shouldn't have luxuries." This is why most people stay poor. They feel like they deserve to have things too, but they spend there 50$ instead of saving. Resulting in credit card use and borrowing from friends/family and going in circles.

not everyone.
DH and I went from making 25K a year (between two of us with a fam of 3 in some places is considered poor, defined by state and living cost).
we went down to $10k., stopped habits, sold things we had (tv, projector, computer, computer parts, etc.)
however, we do spend money once in a while. we NEVER go out on a date, but DH took me out last night. :) sometimes, you need stuff like that.

I know, you have to enjoy life, but I mean I know for a fact that many people can't get 10 dollars built up because everything is spent before they have it

I don't care what others do I'm just commenting on something I notice. Cutting out these "luxuries" for even just one year would start saving a lot.

It's a known problem that a lot of people are in a financial hole and don't get out, not can't, but don't. This passes to the kids. And down the generations.

Usually these spending habits are accompanied by slang, irresponsibility, and wreck less behavior, no manners, etc... And these people have the kids that are like 9 years old riding their bike to the gas station at 12am.. And start doing drugs in middle school.

Usually on pain meds too because they called 1 800 ask Gary after a car wreck which they were perfectly fine from

If you have no clue what in talking about you may live in a nicer area
I'm in pasco county Florida lol
Pain pill capital of America
There are tons of these people
around

I'm not judging, if love to see everyone get better and do well

I sort of disagree.

It is always a good idea to have a cushion when times get really hard, but I was raised to enjoy life. Why spend your whole life miserable trying to save money when you are just going to die? Live in the moment, do what makes you happy. None of my business as long as your children are taken care of.

Not judgmental? are you kidding me? Just because they have tattoos on their face and their clothes are baggy or they 'walk with a lean' don't mean a damn thing. You can't say that they are poor unless you KNOW them. It don't matter where you are from.
I knew an older couple who you would presume were poor because of how they look and walk and lived... but they were by far poor. They had loads of money due to the houses they rented out and everything like that. They owned a BUNCH of houses and a junk yard and a store. but they dressed as tho they were poor. Don't judge someone on the way they look.
Everyone knows the says never judge a book by its cover and thats just what you are doing. If you dressed nice and always had your nails done would you like it if someone told you that you are a snooty rich bitch because of it?

... You're not getting what I'm saying
I have no desire to be rich, ever
We make like 16k a year... Way below official poverty line.
But I'm talking about the ...well, there is no nice way to put it..the low class not just in money but on choices, who neglect their kids, and are just always looking to get "effed up" no I know not everyone who looks like that us poor, but statistically at least 90% are I put my life on it.
I have a friend with a face tattoo I'm kit saying that makes someone bad
And I'm not better than anyone so idk where you got that from...
I'm talking about an issue, one if the many America (and other places) have

You can still be happy and live life without spending all your money. I would rather save for 5 years and do fun cheap activies than worry every month if my cable or water will be shut off or if I can make my car payment. That's not living life.

for MANY people who you would consider 'poor', most of their money is spent before they even get their pay check.
seriously, have you seen the cost of rent lately? utilities?

There's lots of skanky people around when I live that seem to be poor. They draw checks, foodstamps, & anything else they can get from the government/state but yet they have plenty if money to buy cigarettes, beer, lottery tickets & drugs. Most of them look dirty & their kids are dirty. Honestly, I can't help but to look down on people like that. I don't get why some people would rather live off the government/state & have nothing the rest of their lives instead of getting out there & getting a job or go to school or something & make a better life for themselves & their family.

I didn't say that, I know many multi millionaires over in champions club (nicest neighborhood in my city) that smoke weed. I'm specifically saying the people who spend whatever they have left after bills on cigarettes lotto beer pot etc
