people are careless with words....its sad that in this day in age that a person with a different ability or disability is still seen as someone that is "less than" the rest...

We went to "Monday Morning Magic" at a fair/exahibition here. It's a morning for ONLY special needs kids and their families. My son has a hat I made him that says "I'm awesome AND I have Autism". One of the volunteers, handing out stickers, was tearing up and says to me "You people are so brave. So strong. How hard it must be to have a child like that."

Lady, think you volunteered on the wrong day. I don't need your pity. Know you are "trying" to be nice, but my kid is just fine, and we are ok.

Normal is an illusion , what is normal for a spider is chaos for a fly.

I have worked as a case worker for adults with developmental disabilites in the past. I cant tell you how many people would come looking for jobs so they could "help these poor disadvantaged people" Newsflash....my clients had amazing fulfulling lives and just needed some help having an awesome time. People with disabilites are constantly treated as less than because others see what they cant do or what they need help with before the actually look at the person in front of them....I just work on changing one mind at a time..

And I, as a mom of one of those people, appreciate that :)
