Abortion and child support D&D kthx. Due January 13 (girl); Cleves, Ohio 66885 posts

A man and a woman have sex. The woman gets pregnant, but the man wants her to get an abortion. She doesn't want one, and decides to continue with the pregnancy. He leaves.

Should he be obligated to pay child support? Or is he allowed to terminate rights to the baby, much like a woman is allowed to terminate rights/life to a baby?

I'm not asking about if these laws are already set in place (a man terminating rights for no reason)... I'm asking how YOU feel about it.

He had sex knowing that pregnancy was a possibility, so IMO he should be paying CS, yes.
Though if he terminates his rights he shouldn't have to.

Definitely don't think the man should have to pay for a child he didn't want! Just like a woman has a right to terminate the child she didn't want.
Women get so up in arms about their own rights that they cease to give a shit about the man involved in the situation.
I think that's fucked up.

Nope, he sure shouldn't. If she wants to parent, she can. That's her choice. She should be prepared to do it alone if the guy doesn't want to parent.

I think he should be allowed to terminate his rights and shouldn't be made to pay child support. I find it terribly unfair that a woman has the choice for both people to be parents and financially responsible for a child.

I think a man should be able to opt out just like a woman. There should be a set time frame, as in he couldn't be involved for a time then just up and decide not to be...but I don't think ANYONE should be forced to parent if they don't want to.

No.

There are always risks of pregnancy whenever you have sex, he should have been somewhat prepared for the outcome.

If men were allowed to terminate on those grounds many men would not wrap it up and then just tell the woman to abort

He should not have to pay. He should also be prepared to sign away his parental rights if that is how he feels.

No he shouldn't have to pay at all. If he is willing to sign over his rights and not be involved then he shouldn't have to pay.

well this is basically my circumstance. I left him alone about it and didnt bother with the CS nonsense. My son and I are perfectly happy about it and less stress IMO.

So yes, I believe a man can sign away. I mean, how good of a parent can he really be if he doesnt want to do it in the first place?

But women are allowed to not use protection and get abortions with no repercussions other than possibly a scarred uterus. No limit. What if the man wanted the baby, and the mother got an abortion anyways? Nothing protects the man when it comes to them wanting/not wanting a baby. I don't think that's right.

He should not have to pay child support. It was her choice to keep the baby so she needs to be the one paying for its expenses and raising it. If we were going to go by this logic then if a man wanted the baby and a woman didn't she should be forced to carry to term so that he could take care of the baby she does not want.

There was a guy on dr Phil who wanted this right. He told his gf from the beginning he didn't want kids and she was on BC. She still became pregnant and told him she's keeping it. Now the guy is fighting this legal battle to have this option.

I think they should have the option. Men can't force a women to have an abortion and has no real rights in that choice therefore he should have rights to sever ties after birth. Women have the right before and after birth with abortion or adoption, men should too.
