Fertility Testing? Scentsational Scents 96 kids; Corpus Christi, Texas 11038 posts

So after having my 5th early miscarriage (6th loss), I have decided to go in and get some fertility testing done. My appointment is scheduled for March 19th. I am terrified but I am desperately hoping for some answers. I don't know if I can handle having any more losses. Has anyone undergone fertility testing? What all should I expect at my first appointment? This is a dr I have never seen before.

I do know that I am ovulating every month. I have a regular cycle (28-30 days), I have been temping and have copies of my charts from May 2012- now. Each month shows a distinct ovulation shift.

At your first appointment you will mostly just schedule testing for you and your partner. This will include blood work (should include an RPL panel), a sperm analysis, HSG and possibly an ultrasound. Once the results are in you'll meet again with your RE to discuss the results and develop a game plan.

Have you had RPL testing yet?

I haven't had any testing done yet. I won't be seeing an RE yet, just an ob/gyn. There is only one RE listed in this city and his office told me I need a referral, but they also said that I would most likely get referred to a perinatologist instead. Not sure why, I figured the p perinatologist would be after I got pregnant, but we will see what the ob/gyn decides. He said he will order my initial tests and then refer me out if needed.

What is RPL testing?

RPL stands for repeat pregnancy loss. If all your test results come back normal I would insist on seeing an RE or a peri. A peri should be just as knowledgeable or more than an RE regarding repeat miscarriages.

The dr did say they would most likely refer to a perinatologist, but prefers to run a couple tests first. The office said that they will run my hormone tests first cause they think it may be hormonal... like low progesterone or something... Im kinda hoping for that to be the issue. It would be nice to have an easy fix :)

Indeed! It's extremely frustrating not to have a diagnosis. I know that all too well.
