If you can do it natural then go for it. I am terrified of needles too but I got an epi and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I had no complications. Don't make a decision until it comes time to. Wait and see how you feel in the moment. Good luck!
Quoting lilmzzgreeneyez *NMOA*:" i understand taht but it still scared me. i always went in at 5-6cms already dilated and with my fourth ... [snip!] ... the hospital and then less than 10 minutes in the room and the doctor almost didnt get his scrubs on before he caught him LOL."
With my first I was induced and went in and was started at 8am. Around 10am I decided to get my epidural and at 12:21 my first was born.
With my 2nd. I wasnt induced. My water broke at 1:30 and I was hyperventilating from the pain and couldnt get it under control and was begging for an epidural. Finally I got it and 10 minutes later my LO was born. I feel like if I had just relaxed and waited I could have gone without an epidural.
Both times I didn't have any side effects. I'm hoping with this one I can go without one.

i honestly felt like i wanted an epidural with my fourth but i knew deep down as i was thinking it that i didnt really want it and it was so quick i just dropped it (i didnt even say it aloud) but i am really scared of the needle in my spine so i think even if i was in pain for HOURS, i probably would still fight the idea of getting one. but i have never had a 24 hour labor like some people i know. (mostly ones who got the epi way within a few hours of being at the hospital and it stalled) except my mom, she was in labor with me for like 30 hours (not with her water broken just contractions) and still went natural lol!
I have had 2 natural births adn they have went well. I feel great after them and am up walking right away. The pain was tolerable both times...But i did ask for an epidural the 2nd time but wasnt able to get one... I dont really make plans im open to getting one if i feel i need it. Just go with the flow and if you cant handle the pain then get one. Ive never had one so dont know what they are like but i can imagine the needle would be the least of my worries when im in that much pain haha
I loved my epidural!!
Some women can handle the pain, and some can't. Nobody is any less of a woman/mother just because they get an epidural. Or a C-Section.
I was induced with my first and the pain was intolerable, so I got an epidural. My second, I went into labor on my own, and labored naturally...I loved it! I was able to get up and walk around, get in the tub, use the birthing ball, etc...my labor was much faster and I pushed a total of 4 times. With my first, I pushed for 2.5 hours. With the natural labor I was able to listen to my body and do what felt right, and I could feel when to push. Also recovery was much better and I had that after birth "high" that someone else mentioned.
Having done both...if I have another, I'll go natural for sure. The induction made a difference, though...it hurt twice as much (at least). Compared to that, the natural labor was cake.
ETA: I should also mention that my epidural only worked on one half of my body...so the other half felt everything and I was still in a lot of pain.
I went completely natural in a tub at my midwives house. I wouldnt change that experience for the world. I probably wouldnt remember it as well all drugged up.
I hate needles and hate the thought of not being in control bc you can't feel your body parts! I've had 2 natural births. The first I was in labor for 84 hours, and this one was 12 hours straight of back labor. That was only two days ago (so fresh in my mind) and I'm still going to say that it'd not that bad. You find ways to cope! Good luck!

Same here. I'm going natural with this one.
OP just do what you think. You can try natural and if it becomes too much, then get the epi

Sam. With my naturaldrug free birth it hurt less than when i had pitocin and an epidursal. OP go in with an open mind. Dont get pitocin unless you need makes it SOOOO mjch more painful.. If you want releif get an epi. You wont care about the needle when your contracting
