What do you ladies recommend I use for my son's scalp? He has been so itchy he cuts himself, mostly while he sleeps. His dermatologist recommend not washing his hair more than twice in a week, I already do that. She gave him a prescribed oil but it has expired and he doesn't have a dermatologist here in FL yet.

What are natural remedies for this?

Put gloves on him while he sleeps, I have to do that with my son sometimes so he doesn't scratch his butt. Try baby oil and a soft brush and gently rub in little circles with the baby oil. Then wash as normal. What shampoo do you use?

what the previous poster said except I would use pure olive oil instead of baby oil

I'll do the olive oil. I'll try the gloves but Idk how much that will work since he is 5 and most likely will just take them off.

My son just turned 6. He probably won't like them at first, but he's old enough to listen. :) Better than a bloody, infected scalp. :/

Yeah...he would listen awake but he is such a deep sleeper that he he's like a zombie whenever I tell him anything whenever he scratches. He even wakes up to pee and doesn't even remember it the next day.

My nephew has the same problem. They finally went to the dr about it and its a ton better now. She puts Aquaphor on his head every morning, its for dry, cracked, irritated skin. Can get it at any store. They told her to use Head and Shoulders shampoo on his head when you give him a bath. And if he scratches it up and it gets inflamed and irritated they gave her a steroid cream for the scratches. His head was really bad for months, he is also 5 months but since shes been doing all these things he has a whole new soft un-irritated head!
She had also tried Olive oil and it helped a bit but not as much as the Aquaphor.
