Any Birth Control that wont make me feel like a maniac?! *G-DizzlesMama* 17 kids; Wisconsin 3509 posts

Seriously, Everytime I try a new BC I feel like an absolute maniac. I realize it is from the hormones but still, I'm like an extremely irrational nut job till I adjust. My doctor recently gave me a script for nuva ring, But I think I'd honestly prefer a pill for a while I was thinking of trying paragard or something. I've tried the shot (no good for me), the patch (allergic), and different pills. I know side effects are different for everyone and there is no perfect BC but I just want some suggestions. For ladies that need low hormone level BC and have a history of depression, is there a pill you would recommend? or another type of BC?

Try something non-hormonal like the Paragard copper IUD. Hormonal BCs are okay for me, sometimes. The generic Ortho Tri-Cyclen was great.

had depo for a year as a teen. Yeah, freaking sucks.

I now have the Paragard IUD since November, I loooooove it. It's worth a try. The worst side effects is heavy periods and cramping during period. Both of which have been very mild for me, but it's not the same for everybody. Some women get it and can't stand it. But at least it's hormone free, and it might be just fine. I say it's worth a try for anybody wanting long term hormone-free BC.

Quoting *G-DizzlesMama*:" Yea I agree, I would never go back on the shot. My doc tried to talk me into it again, I was like ... [snip!] ... I hate. I was thinking of the Paragard, because it is hormone free. Do you have regular periods? or just sporadic bleeding?"

Regular periods! About a week long. The first 4 days are verrry light spotting, the next 3 days are heavy. Nothing sporadic.

Thank you for your advice, another woman suggested this too. I think I will give this a shot.

Thank you for responding! I have an appointment today with my doc to talk bout paragard. Unfortunately it is not covered by my insurance with is suprising b/c I have a really great plan grrr. But I think if I consider how much I will pay upfront and divide that by ten years, it will be worth it lol
