Finger Sucking!! Help! Catie Lamkin Due March 27 (boy); 2 kids; Mount Washington, Kentucky 47 posts

My LO is sucking her first finger and is turning 5 on Friday. We have tried EVERYTHING to get her to stop. She was a preemie and is already having some speaking issues and is getting ready to start losing her baby teeth. We have done positive reinforcements, yelling, spanking, we've had the "you're starting school this year" talk. Im out of ideas! Help!

What about that polish to stop finger biting you'll just have to pain every finger and then keep applying

There's some good ideas here:

And I'd discourage the yelling/spanking as you know it won't work to get her to stop and if anything may cause her to do it more as a comfort thing.

My LO will be 5 on the 26th and she can't shake her pointer finger sucking for anything... it sucks. Her teeth are absolutely terrible and nobody can understand a word she says. It keeps getting worse and worse, I can only understand a couple words that she says within her sentences... they won't do speech for her because she isn't behind in school - it's stupid.

It may not be what you are looking for but my friend had the same issue. Her mom found this fingernail polish designed to deter nail biting and used it. It takes like absolute shit. It's not spicy, like I've seen with some stuff like that, but just tastes awful.

They won't do speech with her?! That just seems kinda shitty. If she needs it who cares if she's behind or not!

Maybe try covering them in tape? Not taping them together just cover each finger individually. Sure she might try to pick the tape off but hey its worth a shot. Just don't use duct tape for obvious reasons! :)

Tried it. She washes or licks it off.

We used kid band-aids and socks/gloves and that never worked. It's so frustrating. I wish she could understand how much it's hurting her teeth and speech, but she won't until it's way too late and that's the frustrating part :(
