Always with a leash. My dogs are well behaved, but one look at a squirrel and I can't promise that they won't take off after it.

My one dog I would absolutely trust to walk without a leash, but he is a big lab pit mix so people are afraid of him. I would be more worried someone would hurt him (my ignorant neighbors like to say I will be sorry one day when my dog kills my children and it will be my fault, because you know any dog with pit in it MUST be a vicious killer, they have also threatened to shoot my dog to protect their kids if he "steps one paw off my yard into theirs" -the only thing separating our yards is a sparse row of desert plants).

My labbit was the SWEETEST baby! The only time she was ever anything but friendly to a stranger was when I miscarried.... she didn't want anyone near me.

You have me started on my pit rant over here.

Imo they should always be on a lead. Your dog may be the friendliest dog to you but dogs can switch at any time. Heard of it happening too many times!

One of my dogs is dumb as the dirt he shits on so he has to be on a leash otherwise we would never see him again. My other dog has to be on a leash after an incident where he was bit by a dog from a coworker my parents used to work with. We keep him leashed because we dont trust other peoples dogs, otherwise he listens to us without a problem.

I have a Doodle and she's always on a leash when we're about. She's an awesome, somewhat dingy, but very obedient dog. I don't want anyone to have a reason to complain about her. Besides the fact that it's the law.

I keep my dog on a leash until I get to the end of my road where it's blocked off with orange cones and there's a bunch of lots for sale (no homes on the lots yet, just a big open space), once we pass the orange cones I let him off the leash and he runs around. I dunno how he'd do if I let him off the leash and just tried walking with him.. he'd probably attack someone (a friendly attack lol) because he's so freakin hyper and spontaneous.

I trust some of my dogs. But I don't trust OTHER dogs, or other people for that matter. And no matter how well behaved the dog, the leash still provides a safety net as in I can pull the dog back if there's an oncoming car and he doesn't see/hear/know what to do in the moment. Or if there's an unfriendly dog approaching us, I can keep my dog from running up to it as if it's a friend.

I rarely walk my dogs outside our property, best safe than sorry when I do. They've got plenty of room to run here, ponds and creeks to jump in, woods and fields to run in, so walking them off-leash on the road to get them exercise is completely unnecessary.

It's extremely irresponsible to not use a leash. Not to mention it's illegal. And you are completely liable for any harm your dog does while unleashed.

I did when we lived in the country, mostly cause..well there wasn't anyone around. Now we live in the city and we have to otherwise my dog freaks out. JUST as we finally get him used to the country we go and make a huge change like this. He finally stopped chasing the donkey and now he's distracted by a whole slew of other things. /sigh

I don't have a dog, but I think that if someone has a dog off their property then it should be on a leash 100% of the time. I think it's rude as fuck to have a dog off leash. I don't want to be bothered by some dog while I'm walking down the street. Don't just assume that everyone loves having a nasty strange dog jumping and licking them. Plus it might bite.
