Jobs are technically private property and privately owned, so the owner can do what they wish and if the people don't want to work there they don't have to take the drug test.

Govt aid essentially belongs to all citizens, thus I can understand how it would possibly come back as "unconstitutional"

I wish that was the law.. It would encourae more people to quit using drugs, and the ones who refuse to quit don't deserve it anyways since they are not using the money for what it's meant for.
It pisses me off, because right now I receive cash assistance $200 a month, and they know that is our only income. They expect me to lie off of that until I get a job. (I am in job training)
If they stopped giving money to people who abuse it as actually gave more to people who really need and deserve it then it would make things possible for us until we get back on our feet!!

Sadly, I know a good chunk of people that are happier on it. My sister and her friend are both pregnant and her friend was trying to make her feel like crap because my sister is busting her ass trying to find a job and her friend was like 'you don't ever want to see your kid'. Her friend is happier living off the state so she doesn't have to ever go to work. It saddens me that she has no desire to better her life.

She will have to at some point. There's a lifetime limit on cash assistance in Michigan.

I don't know if it's unconstitutional, I don't know the American constitution. I don't think it's fair to deny people welfare if they have a drug problem. Some NEED the help that welfare can give them. Also some people get high for free. Don't you guys have food stamps? Isn't it possible for welfare to pay the landlord directly? I think maybe if they did drug test and people failed instead of giving them cash just pay their rent directly (and bills.. if welfare does that) and give them the food stamps, so they have no $$ to spend on drugs.

That's sad. Government aid is supposed to be temporary. But, it's also the government's fault for making it so easily available AND easy to survive on. If I were to get $800 a month in FS (a lot of people do around here), I'd probably have no desire, either, to get off them. Because that's a lot of free 'money' to spend on food... why would I ever want to use my own money to do that?

Yes it's sad... but I wish there were limitations on how long/how much you get in government aid. There are ALWAYS ways around being cut-off.

People on drugs usually sell their food stamps for cash. So they're still getting money to spend on drugs.

She's planning on her bf staying out of jail 'enough' (her words) to provide for them when she gets cut off. She's living in her own little world.

Wow... that's just sad. Kudos at least to your Sister, she's doing what she needs to and busting her ass trying to find a job.
