Next step - losing that friend.

I have to agree. Bottom feeders tend to drag others down with them.

Yeah no kidding. She's slowly coming around and not talking to her 'party' friends as much.

Not from my experience. My mom got FS for my sister and I, and sold them for cash (to get heroin). So when it came down to us having no food... she stole it from the store. Ended up getting arrested for theft. I just know of way too many people who abuse their FS. It's very, very easy to sell them. The cashiers don't check the person's ID to match up to their EBT card. The only thing that person needs to know is the PIN number.

Either way, kids aren't being fed. If parents on drugs are getting $500 in FS... they sell half and barely have $200 for a month's worth of food. If they cut down the FS, they still only have about $200 a month for food. That's IF the parent decides to actually parent and not sell the remaining FS for cash.

IMO, drug testing would be best. If the parent fails the test, no FS. Therefore CPS would become involved because the children may become malnourished. OR, they can step up and put their child before their needs... and stop the drugs in order to buy food for their kids.

A single person on welfare here only gets $595/month and we don't get FS... I don't even know how these people afford the drugs they do.

 That's more than here. They usually don't care about single people. The only people that usually qualify are children, elderly, and pregnant people. By children, I mean their parents get the benefits because they have children.

The kids are innocent though, so the govt is responsible for helping them. Either increase social derives and get them out, or keep paying out the ass hoping the money is helping them.

I was on welfare for one month last summer after I miscarried/quit my job and I needed some money in between. You get $350/rent and the rest is for necessities......... you can't even get a bachelor apartment on the shittiest end of town here for $350.... it's disgusting. As soon as you start having kids though, there's hundreds and hundreds of dollars added to what you get. I think my friend gets over a grand (if I remember correctly) with one kid.

No kidding. I work PT at a min. wage job and I made less than what she was getting. Way less.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Red Bottom:</b>" Why should they give people MORE but not enough to live off of? Keep it the same, and stop spending the rest. The spending is the problem, why would the solution be to spend it differently?"</blockquote>

Because more would help and it would be going to people and innocent kids who actually deserve it.
Like I already said, they would still be saving money even if they gave more to the people who needed it.
Have you ever had to be on cash assistance? Because you seem very one sided about this. Ive been on both sides. I've been a taxpayer and I agree spending should be done differently, but ive also been the one who actually NEEDS assistance to keep my family alive and healthy. I am lucky enough to have family willing to take me in until we can get back on your feet, but some people don't even have that. Cash assistance should at least cover a studio apartment or some low income cheap housing. Why should the kids suffer just because their parents are in some unfortunate circumstances??
