Yes! My mom is anemic, but if she knows she is going to donate she eats liver, and raisins, and other foods high in iron well before she donates to keep her iron up.

Yes, and in emergent situations, those babies get O-

I actually donated religiously like every 60 days or so from the time I was allowed to donate (age wise) to the time I got pregnant with my first at 21...then I stopped...I want to get back into but I don't even know where to go around here...I should research.

I'm O+

Well of course. All people get O- in emergent situations.

Quoting Dovahkiin:" There is a plasma center a few blocks away from where I live and people legitimately donate plasma as a form of income. It boggles my mind because I can't even watch the nurse give me a flu shot. "

I have to say this because it always bugs me. That isn't "donating", that is "selling". If you are making $$ off something you can't really call it a donation. I hate when people are like, "I donate all the time at BioLife". Especially because I know they are doing it to walk out with a check in their hand. Eh, I guess as long as the plasma and blood are getting into the banks.

Lol I know! That's exactly what I thought. I was about to have my temperature taken and all that jazz when they're like, "oh wait, I don't know if you can donate..." It makes no sense to me, but I even called the blood and tissue center to verify and they said that as a precaution, they won't let me donate.

Yeah, people literally stand out the door to get in and "sell" their plasma.

Quoting Dovahkiin:" Wtf. It's not like if you sleep with a hemophiliac his blood mixes with yours. "

a hemopheliac may need blood transfusions and may get things transmitted by blood through that transfussion. The she has sex with said hemopheliac and contracts those things sexually. It just puts her in a higher risk category.
