my almost 7 y/o has terrible breath. even after brushing twice a day. the kids were using Aquafresh for kids, but we switched them to normal Crest to see if that would help with the breath issue. it has a tiny bit but his is still bad. wtf is going on? what can i do to get his breath to smell...normal? i brush his teeth myself lately

It might be a gum infection. Do they floss?

not daily, more like every other day. DD likes to but DS doesnt. it either "hurts" when i do it or he pokes around while doing it himself.

This might seem a left field suggestion, but does he also seem conjested? Or have sinus issues?
If its not the other more obvious suggestions, he may have some food stuck in his nose!

OP: have you tried using kids mouthwash? if it continues id talk to his pedi and dentist he could have a more serious issue than bad breath

Maybe take them to the dentist and have everything checked out.
