I've said 'that's gay' around my gay friends tons of times! I've never meant to be offensive when saying it.

I edited my OP because I think people are missing my main question.

Love that song, I had an idea that was probably it.
Did you read the article about the song?

It is bullshit!

I mean why would she need permission to play it? There were a couple curse words like " damn" but nothing a Mark Twain book wouldn't have.

Also I snooped your profile...I used to go to Palo Alto for vet technology in san Antonio :D. What year are you in?

I had to get permission from parents to teach a spoken word poetry class that pushed buttons a bit because of stuff like homosexuality. Not one single parent objected, but I did have to cover my butt. It's sad that as teachers, we DO need to "ask for permission" a lot because someone gets their panties in a bunch. It's like, I have to be very, very careful and say "Some parents might believe homosexuality is okay, some people might believe it isn't okay. I personally believe it is okay but I also believe that we all have the right to express a difference in opinions without hurting each other. Respect the chance to say your opinion, even if you don't agree with the opinion." Every time I came across a touchy subject I had to say "I believe ABC, some people believe otherwise, and it is okay to believe otherwise." I could really let out an earful of what I think about most people who are against homosexuality, but I can't say that in the classroom, lol. But I can let the students who are against it speak their mind as long as they are respectful.

I had the most wonderful debate one week (we picked different topics each week) in my class about drugs and I was sooooo glad to be able to educate kids and not do the "Just say no!" stance. I loved that school. They were SOOOO open but I still had to tread properly and make sure I didnt influence them or state that the other opinion was bad/wrong. Im glad all kids were pushing to legalize gay marriage, it made that week SO much easier, I really would have had a hard time debating with a student about it!

Oh wow that's so great that they all were for gay marriage! Its just unfair that you have to be so careful about it :/ the newer generations will change that tho I am sure :D
